The first market

A festival cannot bluff the band.

For events with a few thousand people through the gate, the act is part of what the ticket buyer came to see. The organiser needs the impact of word of mouth without spending days assembling it.

Primary

Small and medium festivals

2,000 to under 10,000 attendees

Likely to use agencies today. Working local-act fee range: £300 to £1,000, sometimes more.

Secondary

Guild halls and civic venues

Up to roughly 3,000 capacity

May use a directory when the media, locality and practical checks are strong enough.

Access market

Pubs

Often around £300 a booking

Still driven by Facebook searches and personal recommendations. Useful evidence, weaker paid demand.

Market ranges are working interview hypotheses. A band profile only shows fees supplied by that band.

A shorter booking decision

Media first. Local fit next. Admin last.

1

Put in the event

Location, date, audience and the kind of act you want.

2

Watch a small local pool

Broad national rankings give way to bands that can reach the event.

3

Check the evidence

See contact provenance, insurance state, availability and vouches.

4

Request an introduction

Draft the message without exposing an unclaimed band's contact details.

The defensible bit

A recommendation with someone behind it

A five-star score tells you almost nothing about whether a band can hold a festival crowd. A vouch names the band making the recommendation and, where possible, the gig they shared.

"We shared the bill, saw the full set and would happily work with them again."

Illustrative format. No vouch is published without a named source.
